What To Expect
Coming to therapy for the first time can be a little intimidating!
It's my job to try to make it as comfortable as possible. That's why I provide as much information as needed on the front end to facilitate a smooth start.
When we set our appointment up over the phone I will ask you to come a little early to give you time to fill out the initial paperwork. My paperwork consists of basic information including contact info, reasons for seeking help, and your consent for me to treat you. This paperwork will explain a bit about the therapeutic process and will help me understand more about how to help you. Remember everything you share with me over the phone or in writing is covered by HIPAA and is 100% confidential.
When it's time for your appointment we will go over your paperwork and I will answer any questions that you might have. We will also discuss payment, confidentiality, and my cancellation policy. After this point you are free to share with me what has brought you in for therapy.
The first appointment is mainly about getting to know each other so that I can begin to get a sense of how to help. During this time we may create a flexible treatment plan together, including how often you'd like to come in for appointments and whether or not you'd like to involve anyone else in your care. At the end of the session, which is 50 minutes, we will settle payment and schedule our next appointment.
That's it! Not too scary, was it?
